A man to end all wars

Synopsis

Weeks before the assassination of Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo in June 1914, a number of failed assassination attempts ripple through Europe, organised by a group of North American magnates and German Intelligence operators. In Paris, the Sécurité Générale puts the investigation of these attempts into the hands of the Bayonne based police inspector, Pierre Etcheberry, who immediately makes contact with a variety of secret agents across Europe, amongst them the irresistible Ballets Russes ballerina Tamara Karsavina.  The trail leads him to Sarajevo, where he finds himself following the Black Hand, but is unable to avoid the events in that city that lead Europe into the worst genocide the world has yet seen.  Years later, the inspector fights in the Battle of Verdun, where he reunites with his old colleagues from former peacetimes. Despite the serious injuries he sustains on the battlefield, he is called once again to Paris, where he is informed of suspicions that the agent who conducted the assassination of 1914 is travelling to St Petersburg, in the same train in which Lenin is travelling, just before the beginning of the Bolshevik revolution...
